Here is how an unattended cremation works

Your loved one is collected from their place of death. This could be a hospital, their house, a mortuary, or a care home.

Their body is transported to a crematorium and Memorial Park. They are identified and prepared for the cremation.

The cremation is carried out by our highly-professional team. This usually takes between two and three hours.

You are notified that the cremation has taken place.

We contact you to arrange hand-delivery of your loved one’s ashes back to you. Remember you can always consider laying their ashes within our memorial park or memorialising them under a tree, a bench or even within some hand-made jewellery. If you would like to discuss any of these options, please just ask and we’ll be happy to help.

How much is a cremation without service?

The cost for a, We Are Direct Cremation, cremation is £1050*. This does not include the cost of a
funeral service or any other additional costs. Cremation without a service is a good option for those who want to keep costs low or who do not wish to have a formal service.

What about just having a cremation and no service?

Cremation is an increasingly popular choice for those who wish to plan their own funerals or memorials. While many people in the past chose to have a traditional service with cremation, it is possible to have a cremation without a service.

There are a few things to consider if you are contemplating having a cremation without a service. First, cremation is a final element in the process of dealing with the deceased and therefore requires a death certificate. You will need to make arrangements with us for the cremation itself.

Second, you will also need to decide what you would like to do with the cremated remains. Many people choose to scatter them in a place that is meaningful to them, while others may choose to keep the urn in their home.

However, these days there are many other ways to consider memorialising your loved one. You can have a tree planted, where their ashes can be either scattered around the base or buried under the roots, we can arrange this for you within our own memorial park, you could arrange a more formal burial of the ashes within our grounds with a traditional headstone. You can even have some of the ashes turned into keep sakes or jewellery, you can even fire the ashes into the sky in a firework . There are so many options and ideas.

Third, as there is no service you can then decide if you would like a private service or gathering that’s personal to you..

Can you attend a direct cremation?

Not normally. However, because we only use our own crematorium you are always welcome to come and visit our memorial park.  

A Direct cremation is different because it is simpler and more straightforward than traditional cremation services. However, our Simple Direct Cremation has an option to attend at a £150 charge.

Do you need a funeral director for a direct cremation?

A direct cremation is when you don’t have a funeral service. The time and date for the cremation will be chosen by We Are Direct Cremations. The ashes will be returned to you after the cremation. You can then choose to celebrate in any way you want.

Can I arrange a direct cremation myself?

Yes, you can. You simply call us on 0333 188 2810 and we will talk you through the process of the cremation itself and ensure the ashes are dealt with according to your wishes. After that you can arrange the send-off that suits you, your loved one and your family.

You can still choose to have a service with the ashes. Which you can do yourself, or ask an independent funeral celebrant or religious leader to help out. The choice is yours.

What is a closed funeral?

A closed funeral or sometimes referred to as an unattended funeral, is one where the coffin is not present. Family and friends gather to remember the deceased, but there is no viewing of the body. Closed funerals are often more intimate affairs, as only those closest to the deceased are in attendance. This type of funeral can be less expensive than a traditional funeral. These are nowadays referred to as unattended direct cremations.
